Montessori Childrenʼs House was founded in 1989 to bring the true spirit of Montessori education to Singapore.

The Prepared Environment

Our environment is organised to support the natural development of the child by offering them the freedom to move and choose from a range of scientifically designed materials that respond to the specific needs of the age group. It is not only orderly and beautiful but also real and purposeful.

The learning materials

AMI (Association Montessori Internationale) approved materials are placed on open shelves, within easy reach and arranged in order from the simplest to the most complex. This encourages your child to investigate, explore and interact with the materials in a way that leads to the acquisition of practical skills and abstract knowledge.

The teacher as a guide

Through observation and reflection, our team of AMI-trained teachers plan a hands-on learning experience for your child that is guided by your childʼs inner teacher. The teacher carefully supports the childʼs self development through clear and precise presentations in an engaging environment.

Multi-age groupings

Mirroring real-life settings, it allows children to learn from each other, creating stable and meaningful bonds. Your child learns from older children while mentoring younger children, enabling further mastery as they progress in school and life. As your child progresses at their own pace, there is co-operation, rather than competition, between ages.

A loving and caring community

Your child will be part of a conscious community that prioritises care, grace and courtesy, compassion and values. From championing the greatness of everyday moments, your child learns responsibility, ownership and respect.

“Education is a natural process carried out by the child and is not acquired by listening to words but by experiences in the environment.”
DR. MARIA MONTESSORI

About Maria Montessori

Born in 1870, Dr. Maria Montessori was a visionary, innovator and revolutionary and the first female doctor in Italy to have studied Education, Philosophy, Psychology and Anthropology. She lectured throughout the world, wrote many books and designed an extensive range of special teaching materials that are still referenced today.

Her concept of the “school home” was beyond a physical or educational space, rather, it was a child-centered home setting that provided the love, caring and nurturance that children require for healthy development. Montessori honoured a vision for love in education by inserting family love into a school. She went on to train teachers around the world; resulting in Montessori schools opening in every continent.
